Klaartje Peters, holder of the Special Chair in Local and Regional Governance, co-authored an article in the Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad, entitled ‘De verzorgingsstaat is nu lokaal hoor’ (The welfare state is local now’), in which she argues that Dutch local government should have the right to impose (more) taxes considering the recent substantial decentralisation of social care policy to municipalities.
