York-Maastricht Partnership’s Investment fund

A call has gone out for applications to the York-Maastricht Partnership’s investment fund.

Calls are welcomed to establish joint research projects and teaching collaborations, though other initiatives aimed at furthering cooperation are also possible. They should be ambitious and linked to the universities’ strategic priorities as well as to one of five themes (Data Science, Imaging, Food and Health, The ‘Global South’, The Future Of Europe).

Workshop: ERC Consolidator Independent Researcher Grant

If you consider applying for an ERC Consolidator Independent Researcher Grant, the ERC Consolidator Grant Workshop organised at the 24 October might be something for you.
This workshop provides more in-depth information and is a follow up of the general information session, which took place on 18 May 2019.

The workshop is for excellent researchers (7-12 years after promotion) with an excellent idea for frontier research, who consider applying for an ERC Consolidator Independent Researcher Grant (max. 2 mln euros over a period of max. 5 years).

UHD promotions at FASoS

Following the consultation of the Committee Promotion Assistant- and Associate Professors (BAC), the Faculty Board is happy to announce a series of promotions to associate professor (UHD).

Raf de Bont (Vici), Hylke Dijkstra (ERC), Vivan van Saaze, Geert Somsen, and Aneta Spendzharova have been promoted to the position of Associate Professor.

The Faculty Board congratulates the colleagues with this promotion and wishes them success in their further work.

BA ES student Jeanine de Bruin and FASoS staff member Patrick Bijsmans presented their ongoing research project with Afke Groen during the 18th Biannual EARLI Conference, from 12 to 16 August 2019 in Aachen (Germany). Jeanine delivered the actual presentation, entitled ‘The role of social support in students’ transition to university. The case of Problem-Based Learning’, during this high-level teaching and learning conference.

Ethnography Group resumes meetings and is looking for new members

Do you use ethnographic methods in your research or teaching? Do you want to exchange and discuss experiences with fellow ethnographers? Then you might want to join the Ethnography Group!

Since 2013, the Ethnography Group has grown into an interdisciplinary group of over 60 researchers and teachers from Faculties across the university who meet to discuss ethnographic concerns every month.

Call KNAW Statesman Thorbecke Fund

The aim of the Statesman Thorbecke Fund is to promote knowledge about the life, work and intellectual legacy of Johan Rudolf Thorbecke (1798-1872), statesman and founder of Dutch parliamentary democracy. Proposals can be submitted by professors, KNAW members or members and alumni of the KNAW Young Academy. The project period should be between one and four years, in which a post doc is appointed. Deadline for submitting proposals is 1 December 2019.
