On Wednesday 8 June, 16.00-19.00, the students of the master’s programme Global Development Studies (GDS) will organise a debate about the Global Goals. The event will also feature a photo exhibition from the Building Bridges Foundation, entitled ‘Human Voices Behind the Global Goals’. Peter van Vliet, Director Multilateral Organisations and Human Rights at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (BuZa) will open the event with a short presentation about the Global Goals. He will present unique inside information from his position as head negotiator for the Dutch Government.
The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion with Peter van Vliet, Wiebe Nauta, Jilt van Schayik (GDS student), and a to be confirmed speaker about the role of young professionals, academics and governments in the implementation of the Global Goals. The official part of the event will be closed with a lively debate between the public and panellists. Throughout the event there will be opportunity to ask questions.
The photo exhibition “Human Voices Behind the Global Goals”, will showcase the life stories of young people from Amsterdam to Cape Town. The stories were collected by Jilt van Schayik and Teun Meulepas over a six-month cycle journey. There will also be the opportunity to ask Jilt questions about his journey and his work for UN and the Building Bridges Foundation.
