To the Faculty Boards
Maastricht, July 2013
Dear Sir or Madam,
On the occasion of the Dies Natalis 2014 celebrations, the Board of the Foundation Stichting Wetenschapsbeoefening UM intends to award, for the 24th time, the Foundation Stichting Wetenschapsbeoefening UM student prizes.
The Board of the Foundation Stichting Wetenschapsbeoefening UM does not possess the expertise to award a prize in each of the faculties. The Board kindly requests your cooperation.
The following rules apply for awarding the student prizes: •Annually, one student prize is awarded in each of the Maastricht University faculties. •In the FHML two prizes are awarded. •The prize consists of the sum of 500 Euros and a certificate. •The prize is awarded by the Chair of the Foundation Stichting Wetenschapsbeoefening UM Board, during the Dies celebrations. •The candidate is awarded the prize for an academic achievement [a research report, internship report, bachelor of master thesis, etc.]. •If a ‘coproduction’ wins the award, two students may share the prize. •The candidate is enrolled as student at Maastricht University, or was enrolled at the time the award-winning report, thesis, etc. was created. •The Faculty Board consults the faculty academic staff on suitable candidates for the award as appropriate. •The Faculty Board sends to the Board of the Foundation a brief nomination in English, giving reasons. The nomination consists of around 100 words. The student’s (e-mail) address is also provided. •The Foundation Board seeks advice on the nominations from the College of Deans. •If the College of Deans approves a nomination, the Foundation Board will take up the nomination and inform the award-winning candidates. •If the College of Deans does not approve a nomination, there will be further consultation with the faculty concerned. •Students are awarded a prize for an academic achievement in the year 2012 or the academic year 2012/13.
You are requested to send the Board of the Foundation a brief nomination in English giving reasons (around 100 words, together with the student’s address) before 22 October 2013. For more information, please contact the Foundation’s administrative secretary,
drs G.A.H Baltis-Paridaen.
Yours faithfully The Board of the Foundation Stichting Wetenschapsbeoefening UM
Prof. H. Schneider, Secretary Prof. L.L.G. Soete, Chair

With kind regards,

Rein de Wilde, Dean
