ESST European Award 2017 for best undergraduate essay

The European Masters Programme in Society, Science and Technology (ESST) is sponsoring an award of €500 for the best undergraduate essay on the connection between science and society (or technology and society). Undergraduates from all academic fields of study attending any European university are eligible to apply. Deadline: Friday 28 July 2017.

Open Call for Workshop on the Future of Politics in Times of Populism

What roles do the new right and the old left play in today’s politics? Where can democracy find its place in the 21st century? Alongside Tariq Ali, Saskia Sassen, Srećko Horvat, Andreas Speit, Chantal Mouffe and Ágnes Heller, students will address these questions during the symposium ‘The Extreme Centre’, organised by the Academy of the Arts of the World in Cologne on 18-19 April 2017. Call for Papers: MACCH Conference Participatory Practices

The Maastricht Centre for Arts and Culture, Conservation and Heritage (MACCH) is pleased to announce the upcoming conference: ‘Participatory Practices in Arts and Heritage’ on 17-18 March 2017. The deadline for abstracts is Monday 16 January 2017. This event is a collaboration between MACCH, the research centre Autonomy and the Public Sphere in the Arts, Zuyd University of Applied Sciences and the Jan van Eyck Academie.

Call for Papers: UM Journal of Sustainability Studies, Vol 4

Do more with your academic papers by submitting them for publication in the fourth edition of the Maastricht University Journal of Sustainability Studies. The journal welcomes a wide variety of sustainability-related topics from all academic disciplines. Send your papers to greenoffice@maastrichtuniversity.nl by Sunday 18 September.

Submissions open for the Kremers Award

The Kremers Award has been set up to commemorate the restructuring activity that took place after the closure of the coal mines in the South Limburg region between 1965 and 2010. The Kremers Prizes will be awarded once every two years for the best research project described in a thesis by a higher education student. Students (bachelor, master or PhD) are invited to upload their thesis by Wednesday 31 August.

Essay competition for BA and MA students

Maastricht University is organising an essay competition on the topic: ‘How can the sovereignty dispute over the Falklands (Malvinas) be settled?’. The competition is open to bachelor’s and master’s students from universities based in the European Union and EFTA. The submission deadline is Saturday 30 July 2016. The winners will receive the following awards: 1st prize: € 500, 2nd prize: € 300, 3rd prize: € 200. Please check the brochure for more information.
