UM ranked 9th in Times Higher Education Young Universities ranking

Maastricht University may call itself the ninth-best young university in the world!

UM is proud that its efforts, including those in education and research, have been rewarded in the Times Higher Education Young Universities ranking. ⁠

The prestigious magazine ranks 200 international universities aged 50 years or under according to 13 performance indicators, which fall in the categories of teaching, research, citations, international outlook, and industry income.

Every year, all students in the Netherlands are asked to fill out the NSE questionnaire. You have received an email about participating in the NSE in your inbox.

Fill it out and help FASoS improve its programmes!

The results of the survey will be analysed thoroughly by FASoS and discussed in the management teams. This way FASoS can keep on improving its study programmes.

FASoS garden project

As you may have noticed when you have been at FASoS the past days, landscaping work has started on the backside of FASoS.

To make FASoS more sustainable, the FASoS Green Impact team of 2020, consisting of FASoS staff Sjoerd Stoffels and John Harbord and FASoS students Hanne Schäfer and Charlotte Lenhard, came up with ‘project FASoS green space’. The aim of the project is to convert the “barren concrete space” into “a sustainable green space that will provide a pleasant space for students and staff to collaborate on work, relax and walk peacefully.”

Yoga at FASoS

You can rest your mind again during yoga at FASoS in GG76S, 1.017 every Monday and Wednesday from 16.30 – 17.45. Wear a comfortable outfit and bring along your yoga mat (and possibly a pillow).

You don’t need to register, but the capacity is limited. If you see that the door is closed, it means that there is a full house and you can try your luck next time…

Binding Study Advice (BSA) for first-year students

Important information for first-year students about the Binding Study Advice (BSA): FASoS maintains the regular BSA-criterion of 42 ECTS of year 1 (so does not lower the BSA-standard for 2021-22). But, FASoS has decided to not issue a negative binding study advice.

Every year, all students in the Netherlands are asked to fill out the NSE questionnaire. Today, Thursday 20 January, you will automatically receive an invitation email to participate.

The results of the survey will be analysed thoroughly by FASoS and discussed in the management teams. This way FASoS can keep on improving its study programmes.

EuroSim 2022: once again a success!

A team of 4 FASoS students, prepared by Jelena Stankovic, PhD candidate and EuroSim coordinator at FASoS, and assisted by Chiara Russo, teaching assistant, participated in Eurosim 2022 from 3-5 January.

Just like last years, the team brought home an award!

The faculty congratulates Rebecca Lizier, second-year BA European Studies student on the best delegate award for her alter-ego role as Deidre Clune (EP member from Ireland).

Re-accreditation visit Research Master CAST

On Wednesday 24 November, a panel of international experts visited FASoS to assess the quality of the Research Master CAST (Cultures of Arts, Science and Technology).

The panel finds that the programme meets all four quality standards and will advise the accreditation organisation NVAO to give CAST its re-accreditation.

Global Studies top-rated programme in Keuzegids

Global Studies has received the ‘top-rated programme’ seal from the Keuzegids Universiteiten 2022, with an overall score of 86 out of 100!

European Studies is still the first in its category with an overall score of 63. Moreover, European Studies has improved its overall score compared to the last time the Keuzegids was published.

Arts and Culture is also the first in its category. The overall score of Arts and Culture improved from 66 to 71.

Digital Society’s overall score is 66. Since this is the first time Digital Society is ranked, it is not possible to compare this score to last time.
