Maarten Doorman speaks about canon of philosophy in NRC and Trouw

On 15 September, the Dutch newspaper NRC published a conversation between Carlo Ierna (VU) and Maarten Doorman (UM) about changes in the canon of philosophy.

The piece discussed the following questions: Which philosophers should everyone know? Or do we need to get rid of the canon?

Revised Beginner’s Guide to Dutch Academia available

The Young Academy has presented A Beginner’s Guide to Dutch Academia. It is a revised edition of a guide for foreign researchers who would like to work in the Netherlands that was originally published in 2018.

The guide discusses Dutch attitudes to work, employment contracts and the structure of academia in the Netherlands, with its universities and research organisations.

Be aware of phone scams

Many young people with an international background are being digitally scammed. They receive a call from “a government agency” and are told that they are on an international arrest warrant list, or that they have to pay a big fine.

This is a scam, no government agency will contact you by phone. If you receive a phone call like this, hang up immediately. Call your bank and report it to the police.

Danai Petropoulou Ionescu receives Daniel Heinsius Thesis Prize

Danai Petropoulou Ionescu had received this years Daniel Heinsius Thesis Prize during the 2022 Politicologenetmaal, organised by the NKWP and the VWP.

Each year, the prize is awarded to the best thesis MA Thesis in Political Science written at a Dutch or Belgian University.

One of the key characteristics of PBL is its emphasis on active student engagement. One way of activating students in such a context is the use of games.

On 7 June 2022, Patrick Bijsmans and Anna Harris hosted an interactive Continuing Professional Development workshop aimed at exploring the possibilities that games offer in a PBL context.
