Two master’s thesis prizes for FASoS

Two FASoS master students received the Thesis prize 2021. The students completed their master’s programmes in 2021 with a thesis that was labelled excellent by their faculty.

A huge congratulations to Sara Fornasiero (Master European Public Affairs) and Danai Petropoulo Ionescu (Research Master European Studies)!

Yoga sessions at FASoS on Mondays and Wednesdays

Rest your mind during yoga class in GG76S, 1.017 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 16.30 – 17.45. Wear a comfortable outfit and bring along your yoga mat (and possibly a pillow).

There is no need to register, but the capacity is limited. If you see that the door is closed, there is no more room to attend the class.

FASoS graduation ceremonies

We are very happy to announce the dates for the master’s graduation ceremonies (for the graduates of the academic year 2021/2022). Have a look at the overview of the dates, times and more information regarding the ceremonies here.

Students will receive an e-mail as soon as the Board of Examiners has determined that they have complied with the requirements of the master’s programme. This e-mail will include an invitation to the ceremony and a link to the registration form. Please note that registration for the graduation ceremony is required.

Please note that the day of the yoga session has changed, it now takes place on Mondays and Tuesdays instead of Mondays and Wednesdays.

Jacob Ward wins Veni grant from NWO

Jacob Ward, Assistant Professor in the History Department and FASoS MUSTS Research Programme, has won an NWO Veni grant of €280,000.

His research project ‘The Prediction Machine: Futurology, Technology, and Neoliberalism in British Government’ will investigate how new forms of future-making shaped and were shaped by the rise of neoliberalism. It will inform contemporary debates about prediction, technocracy, and neoliberalism in modern government.

Try out the FASoS Mindfulnest

Do you find it difficult to take time for yourself? Do you need a mindful break? Do you want to be able to work on skills that benefit your study life and your private life in a stress-free place?

FASoS now offers the use of The Mindfulnest, a stimulus-free cabin in which the focus is completely on you. The Mindfulnest is located in the common room in GG76S, room 0.018.

UM ranked 9th in Times Higher Education Young Universities ranking

Maastricht University may call itself the ninth-best young university in the world!

UM is proud that its efforts, including those in education and research, have been rewarded in the Times Higher Education Young Universities ranking. ⁠

The prestigious magazine ranks 200 international universities aged 50 years or under according to 13 performance indicators, which fall in the categories of teaching, research, citations, international outlook, and industry income.

Help FASoS to improve its programmes: fill out the NSE questionnaire

Every year, all students in the Netherlands are asked to fill out the NSE questionnaire. You have received an email about participating in the NSE in your inbox.

Fill it out and help FASoS improve its programmes!

The results of the survey will be analysed thoroughly by FASoS and discussed in the management teams. This way FASoS can keep on improving its study programmes.

FASoS garden project

As you may have noticed when you have been at FASoS the past days, landscaping work has started on the backside of FASoS.

To make FASoS more sustainable, the FASoS Green Impact team of 2020, consisting of FASoS staff Sjoerd Stoffels and John Harbord and FASoS students Hanne Schäfer and Charlotte Lenhard, came up with ‘project FASoS green space’. The aim of the project is to convert the “barren concrete space” into “a sustainable green space that will provide a pleasant space for students and staff to collaborate on work, relax and walk peacefully.”
