As part of the Horizon2020 GuestXR project on intelligent virtual environments, PhD candidate Dani Shanley and Associate Professor Darian Meacham gave a webinar on the ethics of VR and VR environments on 22 June.

Clara Weinhardt launches online gallery “Faces of Trade Diplomacy”

Clara Weinhardt launched this online gallery “Faces of Trade Diplomacy” that builds on her DFG-funded research on WTO politics.

While trade is perceived as highly technical, the exhibition wishes to reveal the more human elements of trade negotiations.

By bringing personal stories, memories and hopes of trade diplomats to an audience, it seeks to build a connection between those that negotiate global trading rules and the more general public.

PhD defence Veerle Spronck, on Wednesday 6 July

Veerle Spronck will defend her PhD dissertation “Listen Closely: Innovating Audience Participation in Symphonic Music” on Wednesday 6 July, at 13.00 in the Aula at Minderbroedersberg 4-6.

Veerle’s thesis is part of the NWO/SIA-funded Artful Participation project, led by Prof. Peter Peters.

Colleagues are invited to attend the defence in person at the Aula or follow it via the livestream.

Laura Ogden represents MO-TRAYL as finalist of NWO’s Synergy Award ’22

FASoS postdoc Laura Ogden was one of four finalists for the NWO’s Synergy Award ’22.

Representing the MO-TRAYL team, Laura made a pitch at the Synergy ’22 event on 16 June at Fokker Terminal, The Hague, for a social impact project to help policymakers and the public rethink the way we categorise migrant youth.

The Synergy Award aims to provide an opportunity for current and recent PhDs to explore the potential impact of their research on society.

FASoS valorisation prize winner

The jury of the FASoS valorisation prize is happy to announce that this year’s winner of the prize is… Walking Seminar Den Haag, a project by Christian Ernsten. Congratulations!

The jury also decided to make an honourable mention. Well done Uitgepakt/Unboxed: Instruments for Science and Technology in Centre Céramique, a project by MUSTS with Karin Bijsterveld as lead.

Marie Labussière wins Advances in Life Course Research Young Scholar Award

Marie Labussière has been awarded the Advances in Life Course Research Young Scholar Award 2022, for her paper “Citizenship and education trajectories among children of immigrants: A transition-oriented sequence analysis”, co-authored with UM’s Mark Levels and Maarten Vink.

Gerda Henkel Foundation grant for Francesca Colli and Yf Reykers

The Gerda Henkel Foundation has awarded a research grant to Francesca Colli and Yf Reykers for their project “A coalition of hawks and doves? Explaining military receptiveness to civil society calls for transparency around the use of force”.

The project includes a four-year PhD position (starting date: 1 September 2022) in the Politics department.
