Aline Sierp features in podcast of Talk Eastern Europe

Aline Sierp was interviewed by Talk Eastern Europe on the ‘Contested Histories Onsite’ project she is directing. The project is a collaboration between the Memory Studies Association and EuroClio and is financed by the European Commission’s Europe4Citizens program.

In this podcast episode she talks about the background of the project, its aims and preliminary outcomes.

Marres workshop: Who are you when you’re performing work?, on 9 November

On 9 November from 19.00-21.00 Marres: House for Contemporary Culture is hosting a ‘Training the Senses’ workshop at the Brandweerkantine.

Philippine Hoegen, Nirav Christophe and Carolien Stikker will guide you to explore who you are when you perform work, with techniques including voice dialogue, performative exercises, embodiment and interaction.

UM Cares: informal carers lunch, on 10 November

‘UM Cares About You – Lunch’ is an event during which the spotlight is put on UM’s mantelzorgers (informal carers).

It takes place on 10 November at two locations, in both Randwyck (Universiteitssingel 40) and the city centre (Tongersestraat 53), from 12.00 – 13.15.

Patrick Bijsmans in expert meeting on international classroom

On 31 October, Associate Dean for Education Patrick Bijsmans took part in an expert meeting on the international classroom, organised by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the Netherlands School of Public Administration.

Bijsmans has published on the international classroom in the European Journal of Higher Education and currently leads a large UM international classroom study together with Carla Haelermans of SBE.

Event Seed Fund Sustainable Research Spearheads, on 10 November

On 10 November from 13.30 – 16.30, SUM2030 will organise a matchmaking event for all UM-researchers interested in the Seed Money for Sustainable Research Spearheads. This event will allow you to find research partners across UM and generate proposals for this seed fund. Moreover, during the event you’ll get the latest information on the selection criteria.

Özlemnur Ataol speaks at event during Dutch Desing Week

Özlemnur Ataol was one of the invited speakers to an event on ‘Designing Places of Belonging’ on 25 October during Dutch Design Week.

The ‘Designing Places of Belonging’ talk brought experts and audiences with different backgrounds together to think about how inclusive urban environments that users feel they belong to can be created.

This programme is part of a 2-year umbrella programme called ‘Designing Cities for All’, organised by Pakhuis de Zwijger.

Akudo McGee publishes blog on Autocratic Legalism

Akudo McGee recently made a contribution to the European Consortium for Political Research’s blog, The Loop.

In it, she describes the need for a better understanding of different authoritarianisms through her example of how governments in Hungary and Poland restricted democracy and rule of law mostly through legal means- a process referred to as autocratic legalism.​

The article, available here, is a part of a larger series called ‘Autocrats with Adjectives’.
