Call for internal UHD position in History and Politics

In line with the Strategic Personnel plan for Academic Staff (2016-20), the Faculty Board has decided to open up a UHD position in both the History and Politics department. This is a position for internal UD staff who meet the UHD 2 criteria as formulated in the ‘Supplement to FASoS Recruitment and Career Policy Academic Staff’.

Eligible candidates need to have been UD1 for at least two years by 1 September 2019.

Vincent Cordewener new FASoS prevention officer

From 2019 onwards Vincent Cordewener is the new prevention officer at FASoS. Vincent took over the role from Claire Bollen.

The faculty would like to thank Claire for her years of hard work and dedication in role of prevention officer, and wishes Vincent all the best for the future.

Introducing: Fieke Wauters

In March Fieke Wauters started as the new research data management steward of FASoS. Fieke will be present at our Faculty on Wednesday afternoon (room GG90-92 B0.12). You can also make an appointment with her on a different time of the week.

Fieke Wauters is research data manager at the University Library. As data steward she will support researchers with their data management issues.

Introducing: Erman Atak

Erman Atak has joined FASoS as Research Fellow with a grant from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (2019-2020). As a part of Dr Bosse’s ongoing ASPASIA project, Erman’s research will focus on the influence of lobby groups on EU military operation ‘Sophia’ against migrant smugglers.

Katleen Gabriels member of Spinozalens 2019-2020 jury

The Spinozalens is the most prestigious philosophy award in the Low Countries. Every other year the foundation awards the Spinozalens to a renowned thinker of ethics and society. The theme of the Spinozalens 2019-2020 is technology.

An independent jury will award the Spinozalens to a dead thinker and an influential contemporary thinker. One of the jury members is Katleen Gabriels, who joined FASoS last January.

Introducing: Costas Papadopoulos

Costas Papadopoulos has joined FASoS as an Assistant Professor in Digital Humanities & Culture Studies. His research spans the development of virtual worlds to interpret societies of the past, to the application of computational imaging to analyse material culture, to the use of digital ethnography to evaluate digital pedagogy and interactive teaching methods. Much of his scholarship focuses on 3D heritage visualisation.

Introducing: Katleen Gabriels

Katleen Gabriels has joined FASoS as an Assistant Professor (Philosophy). Her expertise is in the area of philosophy and ethics of technology, computer ethics, and moral philosophy. Until December 2018 she worked as an Assistant Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology.

Changes at the Office of Student Affairs

Some personal and internal relocations have occurred or will occur in the near future at the Office of Student Affairs.

  • We relocated the Scan Office in room E0.03, Grote Gracht 90-92. Rasma Molenaar is still your contact person regarding the Scan Office.
  • The former Scan Office room is added to the Front Office room by tearing down the separating wall.
  • The Master Admissions Office will be merged with the Front Office as of 1 February 2019.

Introducing: Tom Verhelst

My name is Tom Verhelst and on 1 January I joined the Department of Political Science to work as a part-time (50%) postdoc on a research project on local governance under supervision of Professor Klaartje Peters (end of contract: September 2021). The project will investigate how Dutch local councils are able to effectively control their executive. Next to this, I work at Ghent University on a part-time basis (50%) as a postdoctoral researcher.

Maarten Doorman member of Supervisory Board Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

Maarten Doorman has been appointed as one of the new members of the Supervisory Board of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Together with Carla Aalse (vice-chairman), Homme ten Have, Truze Lodder (Chair), Henriëtte Prast and Jos van Rooijen all members of the Board share an affinity with the social objective of the Stedelijk and meet the key selection criteria of independence and integrity.

Various national media outlet have reported on the appointment.
