Christine Neuhold invited to hearing of European Parliament AFCO

Christine Neuhold was invited as an expert to an Interparliamentary Committee meeting organised by the European Parliament Constitutional Affairs committee (AFCO) on 19 November. This interparliamentary meeting was organised with the view to reinforce the dialogue between the European Parliament and the National Parliaments and to enrich the current work of AFCO on 2 own-initiative reports linked to the future institutional evolution of the Union.

The first one, exploring the unused potential of the Lisbon Treaty and how it could be better implemented to meet the current geopolitical, economic and social challenges (Co-rapporteurs: Ms Bresso and Mr Brok), and the second one is examining the possible evolutions and adjustments of the current institutional set up of the European Union (Rapporteur: Mr Verhofstadt).

Christine was invited to provide input for the discussion on “parliamentary scrutiny over the executives in the European Union”. In this context she inter alia drew on her insights of the Observatory of Parliaments after Lisbon (OPAL) project and a project commissioned by the Dutch Tweede Kamer.
