On the occasion of his retirement on Friday 12 May, Wiebe Bijker was presented with a book as a tribute to his important contribution to STS, in Maastricht and beyond. The book, ‘Wegwijs in STS. Knowing your way in STS’, consists of 46 short chapters written by past and present colleagues, as well as scholars who pursued their PhD degree under his supervision. Each chapter outlines an STS concept, for someone very new to the field. The book is divided into eight sections: Doing Democracy, Bicycles and Beyond, Engineering Water and Nature, Sounds of Music, Powers of Knowledge, How Healthy is Medicine?, Travelling Knowledge, and Going South. Chapters are written in either Dutch or English. The book demonstrates the breadth and depth of Wiebe’s impact on the ideas and thinking of his colleagues and PhD students.
The book was edited by Harro van Lente, Tsjalling Swierstra, Sally Wyatt and Ragna Zeiss. Sabine Kuipers compiled all the contributions. The book contains illustrations by Mirko Reithler (including the illustrations on the cover).
