The world is awash with massive amounts of data, but data scientists are stymied in their ability to efficiently find and reuse this digital gold. In this talk, Professor Dumontier will discuss his efforts to develop computational frameworks that wrangle knowledge into simple, but effective representations that are FAIR – Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable – and how we use other people’s data to reproduce studies, validate salient findings, and make new discoveries.
The Beauty and Benefit of Nano Biology for Medicine

In this lecture co-director of the Maastricht MultiModal Molecular Imaging Institute M4I, Peter Peters will show how the Division of Nanoscopy investigates cell structures at the macromolecular level. Inside cells, proteins work together in complex structures and are responsible for virtually all processes in the human body, including diseases such as cancer. To understand the working mechanisms of protein complexes, three-dimensional imaging of normal and disease-causing protein complexes is essential. Peters will show how this could ultimately lead to more effective treatments.
