European Master’s Degree in Human Rights and Democratisation

The European Master’s Degree in Human Rights and Democratisation (E.MA) is a one year multidisciplinary advanced course in the field of human rights and democratisation. In the first term of the academic year students will study in Venice, Italy; in the second at one of the 41 participating EU universities. Maastricht University will make the national selection. The application deadline is 15 March 2014.

In Italy students will perform an in-depth study of the following themes:

  • Human Rights Institutions
  • Mechanisms and Standards
  • Human Rights in Context
  • Democratisation
  • Human Rights and Globalisation
  • Human Rights and Security

In the second term of the academic year they will study at one of the 41 participating universities from all member states of the European Union. This Master’s programme is aimed at preparing young professionals to respond to the operational requirements of daily work in international organisations, field operations, governmental and non-governmental bodies.

This Master’s programme also focuses on practical skills and is supported by an Advisory Board consisting of representatives of prominent organisations such as the EU, the Council of Europe and Human Rights Watch.
