FASoS MA Arts and Sciences alumna Judith Maas, deputy ambassador in Mexico, reflects in an interview with UM on the way in which her studies helped her in her career. She advises prospective students to ‘choose a study programme you’re passionate about’. While she recalls her time at FASoS as ‘intense’, she also cherishes the memories of immersing herself in the challenging readings.
After graduating from her MA in Arts and Sciences, Maas decided to become a diplomat. Since then, she has worked as a development consultant in Afghanistan, sector consultant in Uganda, and cluster head for West Africa in the Foreign Affairs department. Maas has been deputy ambassador in Mexico since 2017.
Nowadays, she still benefits from her studies at FASoS: ‘I still think about and tackle problems in groups. I’m a team player; I learn a lot from interacting with my colleagues. And because I look at problems from all angles, I’m more likely than others to think outside the box’.
