Dr. Amitav Ghosh received an honorary doctorate from Maastricht University during the 43rd Dies Natalis on 25 January 2019, at the recommendation of FASoS and in consultation with the University Council.
Professor Valentina Mazzucato, who promoted him for this honorary Doctorate, argues that Dr. Ghosh’s works highlight a truly global perspective to history through his analyses of global historical events from the perspective of everyday people.
Dr. Ghosh is a renowned author of fiction and non-fiction, whose books have been translated in 30 languages; and have received many prizes. His lastest work ‘the Great Derangement: Climate Change and the Unthinkable’ examines our inability to at the level of literature, history, and politics—to grasp the scale and violence of climate change.
