#FASoSFoodies part 4: Alessandro Franco from Italy

Alessandro Franco is an Arts and Culture student at FASoS. He was born in Florence, Italy. Before he came to Maastricht he lived in London for a while where he worked at the Italian consulate. His favourite Italian dish is ‘definitely pizza’: ‘There is actually really nice pizza here in Maastricht, at Piano B,’ he said. ‘To me, the most important thing about pizzas is that they don’t have pineapple!’

He misses his father’s signature dish called ‘Parmigiana di melanzane’ which consists of layers of aubergine and cheese fried and baked in the oven. ‘I really miss the bread and the bakeries from Italy, especially the mountain bread called ‘Pane di montagna’ from a bakery in Florence.’

When asked about Dutch cuisine, he said that he really likes haring. ‘I always take my friends from Italy to the market place in Maastricht to try haring. I think it’s a real national dish. I like ‘Limburgse vlaai’ as well, but it’s not as good as my mother’s apple cake with cinnamon.’
