The Faculty Board has appointed Geert Somsen as the new Programme Director of the MA programme European Studies on Society, Science and Technology (ESST). Geert will succeed the current director Vincent Lagendijk on 1 September 2018 for a period of three years. Geert is a historian of science and technology, member of the History Department and the MUSTS research programme.
He has published widely on technocracy and on science and international relations.
Geert has had many functions within FASoS, among which the Academic Coordinatorship of the Graduate School of Arts and Social Sciences from its beginning in 2008 to 2013. He was PhD Training Coordinator in the WTMC research school before he left the faculty on a Marie Curie fellowship between 2014 and 2017. Geert has been involved with ESST ever since his arrival in Maastricht in 1998.
