Harro van Lente appointed Professor of Science and Technology Studies

As of Monday 1 September 2014 Harro van Lente has been appointed full professor in Science and Technology Studies at FASoS. He also starts as chair of the Department of Technology and Society, and director of the research programme Maastricht University Science, Technology and Society Studies (MUSTS).

Harro van Lente graduated in physics and in philosophy of science & technology, both at the University of Twente. His research interests concern the dynamics of emerging technologies; this involves technology assessment, foresight,  politics of knowledge production and philosophy of technology. He is one of the founding fathers of the ‘sociology of expectations’.

The last 15 years he worked at the Innovation Studies group at Utrecht University. Since 2010 he was part-time Socrates Professor of Philosophy of Sustainable Development at ICIS (UM). He is also Programme Director of Technology Assessment of the NanoNextNL, the leading Dutch research consortium in nanotechnology.
