Impacter tool available for funding proposals

Impact on society is increasingly important in NWO and Horizon2020 calls. To improve your impact section, Maastricht University offers you the use of Impacter: an online tool that helps to avoid common pitfalls and provides an overview of similar research projects in your field. The tool works for H2020 calls, ERC, MC and most NWO calls. Use Impacter by uploading your current document version for feedback. Below are a few important remarks.

  • Impacter will treat your proposal confidentially. It will under no circumstance be shared with any third party. UM support staff active in the field of funding can see what you submitted, and if requested assist you with your concept proposal/using the tool.
  • Through the Search menu, you can search for similar research projects with an early summary or some keywords.
  • ‘New Proposal’ expects a draft in a .docx file. Impacter tries to auto-recognize the various sections of the proposal. You can manually specify them if necessary.
  • Impacter primarily focuses on Impact. However, uniqueness results are based on the excellence chapter.
  • Impacter is mostly unaware of context. This means false positives could occur, but they are often easily recognized.

You can directly start using it by registering with your university account:

  • Go to www.impacter.eu
  • Select “log in with your institutional details”
  • Select “Maastricht University”
  • Insert your @maastrichtuniversity.nl login details at the UM Single Sign On login screen, that opens automatically (you might be urged to accept the terms and conditions – this is a once-only request which you can accept)

The manual and brochure can be downloaded. A short explanatory video is available online.

For further questions, and for requests of adding more calls, please get in touch with Tijmen Altena (tijmen@idfuse.nl). Once you start thinking about writing a specific proposal, or want to get (general) advice on funding, please get in touch with Merle Achten, your funding advisor.

Privacy statement
UM has concluded a data processing agreement with Impacter about processing low-risk class personal data. When using the tool, your email address and name will be saved in the tool and linked to your uploaded files and the related advise from the Impacter tool. The impacter tool will analyse your uploaded texts and provide feedback on them. This data will remain property of UM, will be treated confidential and will be kept in the Impacter tool as long as UM has a subscription. Your data will not be shared with other individuals or organisations (other than support staff UM). After termination of the UM subscription to Impacter, Impacter will save anonymized data for three years for quality improvement of the tool.
