Introducing: Christin Hess

I recently joined the Department of History as a Lecturer in Contemporary European History, with a regional focus on Central and (South-)Eastern Europe including Russia. I am interested in the interdisciplinary study of processes of migration and their consequences. Within this, I published on citizenship, ethnicity and nationhood, most recently in Diaspora: A Journal of Transnational Studies. I specialise in European comparative research.

After receiving my doctorate on post-Soviet migration with summa cum laude from the University of Bath, I went to work in comparative migration policy analysis both at Aston University (UK) and for the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, examining Germany and the United Kingdom. Thanks to winning generous funding, I also conceptualised a successful expert round table series of politicians and senior civil servants over two years, aimed at fostering a joint migration agenda. My new research project explores global Greek refugee and diaspora migration. I will be working on a project on remembering the Soviet Union from February 2016. Outside my work I restore and upholster antique furniture whenever I get the time (a passion I picked up in the UK) and follow figure skating all over the world.

  1. Hi Christin, Russell is trying to send you an email but does not have an address for you at Maastricht. I have tried unsuccessfully to find one online. Could you please email him with your email? Meantime, I will send his email to you in Aston in case that is still in service! All best Jenny
