Introducing: Isabell Burmester

Isabell Burmester is a doctoral researcher at the Department of Political Science and International Relations of the University of Geneva. She is visiting FASoS as a NORTIA early-career residency researcher for her research on EU and Russian hegemony in the Eastern Partnership countries. Her thesis “EU and Russian hegemony in the ‘shared neighbourhood’: Between coercion, prescription, and co-optation” is supervised by Prof. Sandra Lavenex.

She holds an MA degree in European Interdisciplinary Studies with a major in European Neighbourhood Policy from the College of Europe (Natolin) and a BA in International Relations from the University of Groningen (NL). Currently, she is pursuing her doctoral research on the nature of European and Russian hegemony in Eastern Europe and the Caucasus and teaches at the Global Studies Institute (GSI) in Geneva.
