Introducing: Konjit H. Gudeta

Konjit Hailu Gudeta has joined FASoS (Department of Technology and Society Studies) as a post-doctoral researcher in August 2019. Konjit received her Ph.D. from the Department of Human Resources studies at Tilburg University, the Netherlands (July 2018).

Her doctoral research, inspired by her short-lived entrepreneurial experience, explored the experiences of setting and managing boundaries between work, family and community lives of women entrepreneurs in Ethiopia, where women are faced with normative gender role expectations and related structural challenges.

Konjit has been a collaborator in international and regional research projects representing Ethiopia. The International Study of Work and Family (ISWAF) is a research group involving over 35 countries, with a primary objective of examining positive aspects of the work-family interface and work-family boundary management across countries that differ in cultural values and economic contexts. Similarly, saving groups for Africa (SG4Africa) is a research consortium that involves 17 Sub-Saharan African countries aiming to explore savings groups in Africa and their economic and social contributions to members and beyond.

Before joining Maastricht University, Konjit has worked as an assistant professor (July 2018- July 2019) and senior lecturer (August 2006-June2018) at Addis Ababa University, School of Commerce,in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  She has received the 2014 Addis Ababa University President’s award for the category “Emerging Faculty Scholar” as a young scholar with an outstanding contribution.

Konjit is married and has two daughters (Lena 11 and Rakeb 9) who currently live with their father in Ethiopia.

  1. I have known Konjit Gudeta (PH.D), at AAU, FBE, as a student of Management, undergraduate program, where she thought me two courses, Human resources Management and International Marketing. I am now working as Director at one of the Bank’s in Ethiopia, her role in my development was substantial.

    She was really outstanding in delivering her course and goes further to equip her students with course objectives.

    I never forget her!
