I’m Laura Ogden and I’m one of 4 new PhD students on Valentina Mazzucato’s ERC project, MO-TRAYL (Mobility trajectories of young lives in the Global South and North). Originally from Australia, I studied sociology and visual art in Sydney and Mexico City; worked in arts administration and international development in Australia and Timor-Leste; and recently completed my MA in Cultural Anthropology and Visual Ethnography at Leiden University.
My MA research was about educational and curriculum reform in Timor-Leste, using visual ethnographic methods to explore how international (and predominantly Western) educational policies and models are ‘localised’ in diverse cultural, historical and material contexts.
As part of the MO-TRAYL project, I will be researching the mobility trajectories of transnational Ghanaian youth in Hamburg, Germany, with a particular interest in their (transnational and intercultural) educational experiences. I’m pleased to join FASoS and look forward to meeting and working with you all over the coming years.
