Introducing: Veerle Spronck

On Friday 1 September, I joined the Philosophy department as a PhD candidate. I will conduct research within the NWO/SIA project ‘Artful Participation: Doing Artistic Research with Symphonic Music Audiences’, supervised by Sally Wyatt, Peter Peters and Ruth Benschop (Hogeschool Zuyd). In my research, I will explore current symphonic music practices and investigate the quality of audience participation in them.

Before I came to Maastricht, I obtained a BA in Art History at the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam. I am, however, not completely new to FASoS: until this summer I worked as Managing Assistant within the Maastricht Centre for Arts and Culture, Conservation and Heritage (MACCH), and in 2016 I graduated from the research master CAST with an ethnographic study on artistic research practices in the Netherlands and Flanders.

I am excited to be able to investigate the borders between Science and Technology studies and the arts further in the upcoming years, and I cannot wait to immerse myself in the ethnographic fieldwork that I will carry out as part of this research. I look forward to meeting you all (again) at FASoS!
