I am joining the Department of Technology and Society Studies as Assistant Professor in Globalisation and Development, after spending the last four years at Wageningen University in the Cultural Geography Group. This transition is an exciting step: as a post-disciplinary social scientist, I am looking forward to contributing to existing projects as well as creating new research collaborations in my new role as a member of FASoS and MACIMIDE.
My background bridges anthropology, sociology, and geography, with methodological interests in interaction and practice. I was trained originally as a filmmaker, then as a linguistic anthropologist in the US and in France, and finally completed my PhD in Human Geography at University College London. My main research questions center on migration & diaspora, dwelling & leisure and assemblage & complexity. Along those lines, I have focused mostly on encounters between Morocco and Europe – looking at linguistic and leisure practices of diasporic holidays for my PhD, and most recently working on a project about dwelling and complex dynamics of home ownership in the Tangier region. More details about my work are available at https://unimaas.academia.edu/LaurenWagner.
At Maastricht this year, I will mainly be teaching in the Globalisation and Development, and some in European Studies. Anyone who has advice about these programmes, or just wants to have a chat, find me for a coffee!
