A changing NATO for a changing world – Lecture on 16 February

On Tuesday 16 February, 20.00, Dr. Jamie Shea, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Emerging Security Challenges, NATO, Brussels, will give a lecture entitled ‘A changing NATO for a changing world’. In this lecture, Dr. Shea will look at the merits of NATO and the EU’s current military and defence efforts, and suggest ways in which they could be made more effective. The lecture will take place in the auditorium of Minderbroedersberg 4-6.

Dr. Shea will explain the reasons for the great deterioration in European security, with the emergence of a resurgent Russia and a chaotic Middle East. He will then look at the various ideas being considered by the Western Allies for getting out of this unhappy state of affairs and restoring a modicum of security and stability on their periphery. Will NATO’s Readiness Action Plan deter Russia, and is defence capacity building in the Middle East and North Africa really going to help local governments to solve their own problems?
