Lecture: ‘Argentina 40 Years after the Military Coup’ on 21 March

On Monday 21 March, Prof Michiel Baud, Professor in Latin American Studies at the University of Amsterdam and Director of the Centre for Latin American Research and Documentation, will give a lecture on the consequences of the military dictatorship in Argentina from 1976 to 1983. The lecture will start at 20.00 in the Auditorium, Minderbroedersberg 4-6. Free entrance.

Forty years after the ‘golpe de estado’ on 24 March 1976, professor Baud will discuss the consequences of this dictatorship, which are still felt today. Argentine society is still bitterly divided on its origins and consequences. This concerns issues not only of justice (legal and moral), but also of national identity and collective memory. In this way, Argentina presents an interesting example of the different and often conflicting consequences of a past of conflict and human rights violations.
