Studium Generale Lecture: Galileo’s Middle Finger, on 21 November

On Tuesday 21 November, 20.00, Dr Alice Dreger, Historian of Medicine and Science, will give a lecture entitled ‘Galileo’s Middle Finger: Science, Activism, and Journalism in the Age of the Internet’, where she will argue that the pursuit of evidence should be understood as the most important ethical imperative of our time. Location: Auditorium, Minderbroedersberg 4-6. Free entrance.

Can science make the world a better place? Can a scientist also be an activist? What values should activists and researchers share? How should we think about the relationship between the twin pursuits of justice and of truth? And what is the role of journalists when disputes between activists and researchers break out?

Join the lecture to reflect on these questions and more.

Dr Alice Dreger is a Historian of Medicine and Science, Sex Researcher, Writer and Activist, in Chicago, USA.
