On Friday 1 April, Maarten Doorman was appointed Extraordinary Professor Historical Culture of Germany: philosophy, art and literature, at the Faculty of Humanities of the Free University of Amsterdam (VU). This chair was established by the Germany Institute Amsterdam and is part of the Department of Arts & Culture, History and Antiquities of VU.
Doorman will make connections from a culture philosophical perspective between philosophy, art and literature with a special emphasis on the historical interaction between German, English and French romanticism and contemporary processes of giving meaning to canonical work in that context.
