Maarten Vink presents research at Ministry of Security and Justice

On Thursday 12 May Maarten Vink gave a presentation at the Ministry of Security and Justice in The Hague at a conference on ‘The Future of Naturalisation in a Changing World’. Maarten discussed empirical evidence on the relation between naturalisation and immigrant integration. He discussed evidence showing that after seven years of residence in the Netherlands naturalisation loses its potential to positively impact integration outcomes in the labour market.

Among others, he debunked the idea –underlying a proposed legislative amendment- that it is better for immigrants to naturalise after a longer residence period than the current 5 years required in the Netherlands. Maarten discussed evidence showing that after 7 years of residence in the Netherlands naturalization loses its potential to positively impact integration outcomes in the labour market among immigrants. The research for this presentation was done together with Floris Peters and Hans Schmeets using data from Statistics Netherlands.
