On Monday 20 November, the Dutch radio station BNR aired a news item in the series ‘The New World’ (de Nieuwe Wereld) on the question: ‘What if we would stop broadcasting traffic information?’ Marith provided some historical as well as contemporary context to the question. The podcast can be found on the BNR website.
She argued that traffic reports are deeply ingrained in the Dutch radio broadcasting tradition and that many contemporary motorists (still) actively listen to the reports while driving, amidst a wide range of other listening activities.
