Nantke Pecht receives Fellowship from University of Potsdam

Nantke Pecht has been offered a short-term fellowship in the research cluster SFB 1287 ‘Limits of Variability in Language’ at the University of Potsdam for 2018. For a period of three months, Nantke Pecht will carry out research within the project, ‘Integration of linguistic resources in highly diverse urban settings: Stretching the limits of variability’, set up by Prof. Heike Wiese and Ulrike Freywald. For more information, please see the website.

This project – which shows parallels to her current research at the UM –  investigates the multilingual setting of an urban street market, where speakers draw on a large range of linguistic resources, and is one of the first larger projects in the European context that combines ethnographical and sociolinguistic methods with grammatical analyses and theoretical linguistic modelling.

By exploring the systematicity and the limits of variability in linguistic behaviours, the main focus of the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) is on identifying the constraints of the underlying linguistic system. Several projects jointly evaluate the limits, relations, dependencies, and commonalities of different types of variability across a range of linguistic phenomena from the perspectives of language interaction and change, of language processing, and of grammatical systems.
