New Strategic Personnel Plan and Recruitment and Career Policy

Just before the Christmas break, the Faculty Council gave its consent for the approval by the Faculty Board of two major new HR policy documents:

The first document outlines a number of general starting points for FASoS HR policy (such as f.e. increased number of permanent contracts) and sets a frame for future personnel planning at the faculty. It also specifies that during the 2016 – 2020 plan period, the faculty will continue to stick to the so-called ‘formation’ principle, based on FTE totals as the guiding principle for its personnel planning. This policy will however be combined with an adaptation of the current pyramidal structure leading to the creation of extra positions at the level of associate professor and professor. Through this adaptation, the board aims to create additional opportunities for staff, while at the same time respecting the faculty’s financial constraints.

The second document aims to create further clarity and transparency about the recruitment and career policy for academic staff at FASoS. It describes the relevant policy, procedures and perspectives, including the minimal requirements of appointment for the various positions (see supplement). The new policy also includes the creation of a new advisory ‘Committee Promotion Assistant- and Associate Professors’ (Benoemingsadviescommissie UD en UHD) advising the board on promotions.

Both documents will be discussed in more detail at the departmental meetings.

Best wishes,

Sophie Vanhoonacker, on behalf of the Faculty Board
