NWO PhD grants for teachers

The PhD grants for teachers are intended for teachers who would like to undertake PhD research and write a dissertation. The aim of the programme is to apply learning and research experiences directly in teaching practice. As the Dutch government is interested in increasing the number of teachers with a PhD, the programme is open to all disciplines as long as the PhD research meets this criterion.

Who can apply? Applicants must have a permanent contract and been working for at least a year at a school funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science or the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. Teachers who are currently engaged in PhD research can also apply. Women candidates are specifically invited to apply.

What can you apply for? The PhD grant can be used to fund a replacement to allow you additional research time for 50% of your contracted hours up to a maximum of 0.4 FTE and four years’ duration.

In 2014 there will be two rounds of applications. The first deadline is 12 March 2014, 14:59, the second is 2 September 2014.
