NWO Social Sciences (MaGW) Research Talent programme. Call for applications in June

NWOlogoAre you a professor in our faculty and have you spotted a talented social sciences student in a master’s programme? Are you a talented master’s student who is interested in doing a PhD in social sciences? Then NWO funding from the Research Talent programme might be for you!
NWO will publish the call for this programme on their website: www.nwo.nl at the end of June 2013. Proposals will have to be submitted to NWO before the deadline in early January 2014.

The NWO Research Talent programme offers talented, upcoming researchers the opportunity to fulfill their ambitions of pursuing a scientific career with a three-year PhD research project.

Proposals for the Research Talent programme are most likely to be successful if submitted by full, associate or assistant professors in the social and behavioural sciences.

Note that, even though NWO states that ‘the degrees of the candidate will continue to form part of the assessment by NWO’, a research master’s degree is no longer mandatory for the prospective PhD candidate, unlike in previous rounds.

In the upcoming call, only a limited number of proposals can be submitted to NWO. Maastricht University (UM) is allowed to nominate 10 candidates from the six UM faculties involved in research related to the behavioural and social sciences (FASoS, FPN, SBE, FL, FHS, FHML).

The number of proposals available to FASoS is currently being decided, as are the UM selection procedure and time line. FASoS will set up its own internal selection procedure and shortlist a number of candidates (probably 3-4) for further consideration by the UM Executive Board.

Keep in mind that the final proposal will probably have to be submitted for the internal procedure at least one month before the NWO deadline; candidates will be asked to submit a well-worked out preliminary proposal around mid-October 2013.
