Opportunity to apply for China Scholarship Council PhD students

Colleagues interested in integrating a Chinese PhD student within his/her research or project at FASoS are invited to submit a proposal before 15 September 2019.

Maastricht University and the China Scholarship Council (CSC) collaborate to provide high quality research training to qualified students from Chinese universities and research institutions.

The primary focus is for selected PhD candidates from Chinese institutions to take a full PhD study at UM.

We would like to encourage FASoS researchers interested in integrating a Chinese PhD student within his/her laboratory/project to submit an updated or new project proposal before 15 September.

Kindly follow these guidelines: use as template max. 1 page A4 or 250 words, including names of Principal Investigator (PI) and Promotor involved, the research proposal, techniques to be used and at least 5 major publications, with citation scores after 2014. Examples from last year can be found on the UM CSC website.

Projects should link to key areas identified by the Chinese government. For FASoS, this means that project ideas will match with the Chinese strategic priorities ‘Humanities and Social Sciences’ or ‘Human Activities and Their Impact on the Earth System’ or ‘Global Change and Regional Response’.

The proposals will become available to the Chinese Master Students in China as well as on our Maastricht University China website. The Chinese candidates will, after consulting these websites, directly contact you or will make a request through the Chinese website for a 10 minute meeting (with Professor Harry Steinbusch or another colleague). A UM delegation intends to visit Beijing or Shanghai in November 2019.

The CSC scholarships are in principal 4-year contracts. The candidate will receive a scholarship for 48 months to work in the Netherlands with a modest monthly allowance.

Send your proposal (ideally as a Word or PDF document) to the Research Support Office (research-fasos@maastrichtuniversity.nl) before 15 September 2019.
