PhD defence Jorijn van Duijn, on Friday 22 November

Jorijn van Duijn will defend his PhD dissertation ‘Fortunes of High-Tech: A history of innovation at ASM International, 1958-2008′ in the Aula, Minderbroedersberg 4-6, on Friday 22 November at 12.00. You are cordially invited to attend.

Jorijn’s supervisors are Prof. dr. ir. Harro van Lente (UM) and Prof. dr. Dirk van Delft (University Leiden).

In his PhD project he looked into the dynamics of high-tech innovation through a history of Dutch multinational in semiconductor technology ASM International from 1964 until 2008. By exploring both the complete business history and the realization of selected innovations at ASM, the complexities involved with operating and innovating in a high-tech industry become apparent.

The period of time covered by this project coincides with the presidency of the company’s founder, Mr. Arthur del Prado. The study is based upon Arthur del Prado’s extensive archive, 85 individuals interviewed worldwide, and complemented with secondary literature.

Furthermore, a wide range of stakeholders was committed to the project, like amongst others Museum Boerhaave, ASM, and Mr. Del Prado himself.
