UM AGORA discussion evening ‘Beyond Black Pete’, on 28 November

On Thursday 28 November 2019, UM AGORA will host a bilingual discussion evening for the Limburg region about the Dutch controversy surrounding Black Pete. Together we will explore how this issue has unleashed such intense emotions in the Netherlands.

When: Thursday 28 November, 18.00 – 20.30.
Where: Groote Sociëteit, Vrijthof 36, Maastricht.

Entrance is free, but please register by sending an email to agora-fasos@maastrichtuniversity.nl.

Dr. Ulrike Mueller (UCM) will place the Black Pete controversy in a socio-historical perspective, after which two panellists will share their experiences to engage the audience in the discussion.

The soirée is bilingual. Interpreters will translate from English into Dutch and vice versa. If you want to use our translation service, please bring a smart phone plus earphones.

Refreshments, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided, and the soirée will be opened and closed on a musical note by the TTBB Rhythm section.

AGORA is an outreach initiative of Maastricht University staff working in the field of gender and diversity studies, who want to exchange ideas with the local community. This is the first of a series of six soirées, running from November 2019 to November 2020.
