Update from the Faculty Board about the ‘BA Digital Society’

The preparations for a third BA (Digital Society) have reached an important milestone. The ‘macrodoelmatigheidstoets’ (hard to translate – ‘effectiveness’ comes closest) has been submitted to the CDHO, a committee in The Hague that advises the Minister for Education, Culture and Science. The document (35 pages plus appendices for a total of 100 pages) makes the case for the societal and academic relevance of the programme.

The document provides a summary of the programme, and compares it with existing programmes offered by other universities in the Netherlands. In addition, it discusses policy and research initiatives around digitalisation processes. It also looks at the future possibilities for graduates, both for further study and in the labour market.

The ‘macrodoelmatigheidstoets’ was discussed and approved by the Faculty Board and Council, the Executive Board and the University Council.

Members of the course team have presented the latest developments in the BA Digital Society during departmental meetings in March and April. The feedback has been much appreciated, and a further presentation will be made during the Education Day on 6 June. In the meantime, comments can be sent to your departmental colleague who is part of the course team, or to Sally Wyatt (coordinator).

We expect to hear within two months whether or not the advice will be positive. In the meantime, the course team is preparing the accreditation documents.
