Valorisation lunch sessions

Governments, ministries, companies, institutes and universities are struggling with the concept of valorisation. From Spring onwards until the end of the calendar year, monthly lunch sessions will be organised on Valorisation Practices. The first session will take place on Thursday 23 April, 12.30-13.30.

Valorisation is a broad term that can mean different things, from ‘selling results’ to ‘sharing research insights’ or ‘debating issues with a wider audience’. We would like to raise your awareness on the possibilities, inform you on valorisation approaches and share some of our practices.

In these lunch sessions we will shortly introduce valorisation from a UM perspective, followed by a condensed presentation on a specific valorisation practice (what knowledge is valorised? How? What lessons can be learned?). At the end of the session you will be informed on the UM valorisation infrastructure and initiatives, thereby leaving enough room for questions and discussion.

On the 23 April we start with the topic spin-offs, with the tMFI BV. tMFI is a UM spin-off that utilizes knowledge developed at the faculties of Psychology and Neuroscience, Law and Health, Medicine and Life Science, as a substantial contribution (base) for start-up. Sebastiaan Huntjens will present how tMFI BV builds the bridge between Maastricht University’s knowledge in forensic science and societal relevant (criminal) court cases within one company. If you would like to learn more about setting up a spin-off and attend the session, simply send an email to Merle Achten to show your interest!

For the rest of the year we are planning information sessions on the following valorisation practices:

  • May: ‘Entrepreneurship’ education
  • June: Externally funded Chair
  • September: Cooperation with non-academics in Innovative Training Networks
  • October: Policy and knowledge cooperation at Campus Brussels
  • November: Creating iBooks/apps
