Workshop about the growing market of personal genomics

On September 13th – 14th 2012, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Maastricht University will be hosting an exciting workshop about the growing market of personal genomics.  Participants from Europe and North America will discuss the social, cultural, ethical and political aspects of direct-to-consumer genetic testing. Jennifer Fishman (McGill University, Canada) will be giving a public lecture prior to the workshop, on Wednesday September 12th, in the Attic, 80-82 Grote Gracht, from 15:30 – 17:00 with a drinks reception to follow. Jennifer’s talk is titled ‘Going online: User perspectives on the digitization of genomic health information’.

The workshop has been organised by Anna Harris, Sally Wyatt and Susan Kelly, with the kind help of Wilma Lieben. It is generously funded by Universiteitsfonds Limburg/SWOL and the Technology and Science Studies group, Maastricht University. The workshop marks the approaching end of the two-year project,  ‘Selling genetic tests online: User perspectives on direct-to-consumer psychiatric genetic tests’, funded by NWO-ESRC, conducted by Anna, Sally & Susan.
