2016 call for NWO PhDs in the Humanities to open in December

Are you a FASoS professor and have you spotted a talented MA student in Humanities? Then the NWO programme PhDs in the Humanities might be of interest. The student should have either finished or be in the final year of a master’s programme (esp. Research Master). FASoS may nominate a limited number of candidates, who will be scouted and selected at FASoS through an internal procedure.

Proposals can only be submitted for PhD candidates who are selected by FASoS’ Dean. For this purpose, FASoS has established an internal selection procedure coordinated by the Graduate School Admissions Committee. The Admissions Committee shortlists the candidates; the Dean makes the final decision on nomination to NWO. NWO makes the final selection and decides who will actually receive the grant.

NWO forms and guidelines will be available when the call opens in December. The complete internal selection procedure will be available at the graduate school website of the FASoS research portal. The deadline for submitting a full proposal to NWO will be 3 March 2016.

Timeline for the internal selection procedure:

  • 4 January 2016, 12.00: FASoS deadline for submission of draft proposals to the GS Admissions Committee
  • 12 January 2016: ranking by GS Admissions Committee on proposals in GSAB meeting
  • 20 January 2016: selection of proposals by Dean / Faculty Board
  • 22 January – March 2016: feedback from GS on selected proposals and rewriting proposals by applicants.
