Pre-announcement: NWO calls for proposals on Security & Rule of Law

WOTRO will launch two calls for proposals on 17 March 2014 as part of the new research programme ‘Security & Rule of Law in Fragile and Conflict-Affected States’. The calls have been developed in collaboration with the Knowledge Platform Security & Rule of Law.

Security & Rule of Law in Fragile and Conflict-Affected States consists of two separate funding instruments: the Strategic Research Fund and the Applied Research Fund. Each fund will launch several calls for research proposals, starting with the ones that will be launched on 17 March. Consortia consisting of research and practitioner organisations from all over the world can submit research proposals for either fund to NWO-WOTRO.

Applied Research Fund: Embedding Justice in Power and Politics

The first call for proposals for the Applied Research Fund focuses on Embedding Justice in Power and Politics. The aim of the call is to support research based innovations that contribute to a more people-centred approach for rule of law reform programming in fragile environments and that is grounded in the local political economy. WOTRO and the Knowledge Platform invite interested consortia to submit proposals for applied research. Applying consortia must consist of at least one research organisation and one practitioner organisation that is involved in the design or implementation of policies for security and rule of law reform programmes. In this first call of the Security & Rule of Law Applied Research Fund, a maximum budget of €310.000 is available for a research project with a maximum duration of 24 months.

Strategic Research Fund: Employment for Stability

The theme of the first call for proposals for the Strategic Research Fund focuses on Employment for Stability. The aim of the call is to enhance the academic basis and underlying assumptions of intervention logic and policy theories on Employment for Stability, in order to enhance the effectiveness of policies and interventions for stability in fragile and conflict affected target countries.

Proposals for strategic research may be submitted by consortia consisting of at least two research organisations of which at least one is based in a low or middle income country. Preferably, the consortium is extended with a practitioner organisation active in the area of employment for stability. The SRoL Strategic Research Fund provides a maximum budget per proposal of €443.000 for a project of up to 36 months.
