NWO call creative industry – Embedded and strategic research projects

The NWO Creative Industry programme aims to encourage the development of new research projects to strengthen the knowledge base for the creative industry. Senior researchers can submit Embedded or Strategic research projects on behalf of consortia of companies and researchers. The submission deadline for letters of intent is 12 May 2014.

With this call NWO allows for different kinds of proposals – ranging from short-term (minimum six months) to long-term (maximum five years) projects – so that the desired collaboration between researchers and entrepreneurs and the valorisation of the knowledge acquired can be realised in a mutually acceptable manner. In all cases projects will be realised by consortia of at least one knowledge institution and at least one private partner, possibly supplemented with other private and/or (semi-)public parties.

A requirement of this call for proposals is that research proposals align with one or more of the research agendas developed by the CLICKNL networks for Games, Media & ICT, Cultural heritage and Business innovation. In order to achieve further focus in the call, a number of research questions have been formulated in accordance with these agendas (see Annex 6.1 of the call for proposals).

Two instruments are available in this call: Embedded and Strategic research.

Embedded research
The minimum grant that can be requested from NWO is €75,000 and the maximum amount is €125,000. At least one researcher with a minimum of 0.5 fte for a minimum duration of six months must be appointed for the project.

Strategic research projects
The minimum grant that can be requested from NWO is €250,000 and the maximum amount is €600,000. At least two researchers should be appointed to the project. Researchers must be appointed for at least 0.5 fte for a period of two years on the project.

A letter of intent must be submitted prior to a full proposal. The closing date for submitting letters of intent is 12 May 2014, 13:00. The closing date for submitting full research proposals is 10 July 2014, 13:00.
