89 Netherlands and Studio Europa Maastricht seek research director

Are you an early-career researcher passionate about European affairs? Do you conduct research in the field of Climate?

Then apply to be the Research Director for the 89 Netherlands and Studio Europa Maastricht Climate programme!

If you are passionate about European affairs, excited to engage with new audiences across Europe, and curious about policy making, we would love to welcome you to 89 Netherlands!

89 Netherlands is the Dutch chapter of pan-European think-do tank 89 Initiative, a policy network aimed at mobilising young Europeans in the revitalisation of the European Project. It was founded in 2015 by LSE students in London and is represented in several other regional chapters across Europe.

The Maastricht chapter is the youngest and mainly acts as a bridge between the Initiative and universities in Europe. In close collaboration with Maastricht University and Studio Europa Maastricht, this chapter will aim at translating the experiences of citizens of Maastricht and the Netherlands into policies and projects.

The chapter organises various events and conferences, produces publications concerning European affairs and policies, and conducts outreach and local engagement. Although you will be mainly responsible for your area, you will contribute actively to other tasks and activities within the chapter. While the work is diverse and exciting, it is rather demanding, thus expect to invest a considerable amount of time in it. As a Research Director, you will benefit from the extensive network and resources of the initiative.

Tasks for this position are below:

  • Establish a research programme of your choice, related to your research interests and in the field of Climate
  • Produce a 3,000- 8,000-word policy report at the end of each yearly cycle to present at the 89 Initiative Policy Conference
  • Lead a team of 3-5 research assistants (PhD researchers or master’s students) to carry out research and assist in writing the policy report
  • Present your research findings at 89 Netherlands and 89 Initiative conferences and events
  • Produce other outputs aligned with your research area and interests (e.g. blog posts, articles, podcasts, anything you can think of!)

If you are interested, please apply by 1 July 2021, 23.59. To apply, send your CV along with a motivation letter of 250-400 words specifying your interest in the organisation, why you are interested in this role, and what you may contribute. Please send the application documents to netherlands@89initiative.com. Selected applicants will be called in for a brief interview.

If you have questions please do not hesitate to reach out.

We look forward to receiving your application!
