Accreditation BA Digital Society: Positive visit

On Wednesday 27 February 2019, an international committee visited FASoS to evaluate the BA Digital Society (BA DS) for the NVAO initial accreditation. The committee met with the Faculty Board, the team who designed all of the first year course material, new staff working on questions related to digital transformations, and representatives from the Board of Examiners. Many more colleagues were involved behind the scenes.

Special thanks to Robin Dirix for his hard work and patience, and to those (they know who they are) who helped get the beamer and computer working in the Spiegelzaal early on Tuesday evening.

The committee chair complimented us for the open atmosphere and constructive discussions. They feel that the BA DS offers a high-quality education to prospective students, and that PBL was particularly appropriate for delivering the programme. They were impressed with our interdisciplinary approach, reflected in the first year course material, and with the many ways we have of linking education and research.

We are looking forward to the formal report and the official NVAO decision with confidence.

After Carnival, we will continue planning for the delivery of the first year, and start the process of developing courses for Year 2. Details will follow, but if you have questions or ideas, please contact Sally Wyatt ( – though she will be away for a much-needed break during Carnival Week.

The next panel visits for accreditation in 2019 are:

  • BA Global Studies (date yet to be decided) initial accreditation
  • BA Arts & Culture, MA Arts & Culture (13-14 June) re-accreditation
  • BA European Studies, MA European Studies, MA European Public Affairs, and MA ESST (11-13 December) re-accreditation
