Arts and Heritage alumna starts own project: Meet Maastricht

My name is Justyna Kamińska and I am an art historian, a tour guide and an entrepreneur living in Maastricht. I obtained a master’s degree in History of Art (Poznań, Poland) and in Arts and Heritage (Maastricht). I am passionate about history and cultural heritage. Since 2014 I have been working on several projects in Maastricht, with a focus on cultural education, research, and game design. In September 2016 I decided to start Meet Maastricht.

The idea for Meet Maastricht comes from my observations as a student and a tour guide in Maastricht, and from conversations I had with several other students in the city. As a student of Arts and Heritage I was surprised by the limited cultural offer in Maastricht targeting higher education students. I was interested in culture, so I actively searched for local attractions and events but from many friends I often heard that “there is nothing to do here” or “I’d love to go out and do something special but everything is in Dutch”.

In September 2016 I decided to start Meet Maastricht to change this. The main purpose of the project is to introduce international students to the richness of culture and heritage of the city. We organise a different cultural activity every week, always with local experts and always in English. We give students a chance to discover hidden treasures of Maastricht and to socialize with each other. Check out our website and follow our Facebook page to learn more about our activities!
