Arts, crafts and other skills during COVID-19, on 17 September

It has come to our knowledge that despite the challenges of the past 18 months, or perhaps thanks to the enforced time at home, many of us have developed or refined creative and crafty talents. These might include writing poetry and prose, baking, woodworking, knitting, painting, Raspberry Pi or Arduino, pottery, photography, and maybe many other things as well.

Would it not be special if we could see and admire the arts & crafts produced by our FASoS colleagues?

So on behalf of the MUSTS Knitting Hub, we would like to invite everyone who has been creative during the pandemic, and everyone else who is just curious to see and hear about all this, to attend/contribute to a festive late-afternoon at FASoS on 17 September from 16.00 onwards. The exact space will be communicated after the summer, when more is known about the kinds of gatherings COVID-19 permits by then.

During the event, we would also like to exhibit objects you would prefer to never have to see, handle, wear or think of ever again after COVID-19. Here’s a quote from a call from Bouillabaise (which has already resulted in an exhibition and theatre performance – see http://bouillabaisse.nl/) that may help you think beyond the face mask: “…a pair of worn out slippers, a plant that died from draught despite you working from home, an I-pad destroyed out of frustration … just as long as it will confront, move, confuse, cheer up, frustrate, comforts, gives hope, makes cry or laugh”.

It would be helpful if you could let us (at d.petzold@maastrichtuniversity.nl or b.pasveer@maastrichtuniversity.nl) know whether you would like to put something crafty/arty on show, or perform, or make, or whatever during the occasion, so we can properly prepare for these various stagings. Your contributions may, but need not be, explicitly reflexive of how they relate to our time-with-and-after-COVID.
